10 Wedding day tips from your Photographer
The time has come for you to marry your soul mate, all of the hard work and planning has come together and everything is ready for your big day.
No-one wants any last minute things cropping up on the day that you then think well Ive not even thought of that right ?!
Well don’t worry because here we a going to discuss lots of things that may not have even crossed your mind but may help you feel more prepared in the run up to your big day !
Tip 1 - A lot of brides/ grooms will stay away from home the night before the wedding, be that in an Air BnB a hotel or your wedding venue. Try and pre pack everything tat you will need a few days in advance of your wedding ( this might sound obvious ) but pre wedding nerves can be a lot and the last thing you need is to be worrying about what to pack for the next couple of days along with all of the decor/favours/gifts etc.
Tip 2 - Always check ahead with your venue about if you are allowed to use confetti and if it has to be biodegradable ( also where it is that you are able to do your confetti shots ) lots of venues / churches these days can be quite strict on confetti use so its always wise to plan ahead so that there arent any dissapointments on the day.
Tip 3 - Rain, it’s a word that couples dread if it’s mentioned anywhere near their wedding day. I remember myself regularly checking the weather forecast multiple times a day in the week run up to my wedding to see if the chance of rain had changed at all. It turns out it did actually rain ( LOADS ) on the morning of my wedding but honestly on the day when I was getting ready with the girls I wasn’t even bothered. It’s supposed to actually bring good luck to you if it rains on your wedding day. If you are one that worries about rain, check with your venue for changes that may happen if weather was to take a turn for example if your ceremony is due to be outside, or if you are desperate for photos out in the grounds. Also clear umbrellas are your friend ! ( you can get them cheap and they actually look super cute in couples photos so that you can still get the dreamy outdoor shots no matter the weather.
Tip 4 - Brides, this ones for you, get into your dress an hour before you are due to leave for your ceremony. This helps for things to not be a rush or stressful and also for us to capture lovely photo and video moments of you getting into your dress and doing dress reveals with bridal party and family members.
Tip 5 - This one is all about after the ceremony when it comes to formal group shots. We always send our couples a questionnaire before the big day and on their we ask for particular group shots that you would like. listing these clearly and with names really helps on the day as we can refer to the list and call the names of people so that we can get the group shots done quickly and efficiently so that you guys can all get back to welcome drinks. You can also delegate a member or two of the wedding party to help us to call out guests who may have more of an idea who certain people are.
Tip 6 - Hold that kiss ! Yep I said it, we don’t mean for 5 minutes just more than a little peck! when you see those movies growing up and you hear the celebrant say you may now kiss the bride and they embrace each other and have that dreamy big smooch, that’s perfect for us so we can snap away and get that first kiss as newlyweds with all of your nearest and dearests happy beaming faces in the background. You will often hear us say ‘walk at half pace’ which just slows things down so that you can take in the moment if you are feeling extra confident feel free to add a kiss at the end or even a little dip ! whatever floats your boat - we love to see it. Try not to worry about your posing during your couples shoot either as we can guide you as much as you’d like or we can be like flys on the wall and just capture you as if it were just the two of you having a few moments.
Tip 7 - Do as Frankie says and Relax ! This is going to be one of the best days of your life, years of planning goes into it so its only right that on the day you can fully submerce yourself into your day and just soak it all in.
Tip 8 - Unplugged Ceremony ( Yes Please!) Have your priest/celebrant/Registrar tell your guests that the ceremony is unplugged and that you have a professional photo and video team capturing the whole thing so that they can be fully present in the moment with you. There will be plenty of time throughout the day for candid phone selfies we promise!
Tip 9 - If you are a couple that likes to remember all of the tiny details why not let us capture them for you. on the evening before your wedding just place small details like perfume, jewellery, shoes, a wedding invite and any sentimental pieces together in a little bag or box so that we can grab it on arrival.
Tip 10 - Boquets - We love a bouquet especially on a couples shoot ! so if you are planning on having one have one of your bridal party keep track of it throughout the day so that she can just grab if for you for your couples shoot. Also check with your venue if they have vases available for your boquet during wedding breakfast to keep your flowers lasting and fresh throughout your day.
